Naahhh, don't bother running for cover Steve. The self congratulations that abound in any industry, the BIPP is no exception, are just normal business practice. The real problem is that no one outside the industry see the accolades. And they don't care either. Ive never attended one of these "Award" dinners mostly because Ive never won an industry award :-) but it does seem to me that without a wider audience,I.e commerce and Industry they are just an expensive introspective occasion where the usual high profile good PR type snappers strut their stuff but still have an overdraft. Cynic, who me? I have however benefited from attending seminars by people like Len Dance and Don Fraser who genuinely inspired me and made me realise that I could actually do what they were doing,in fact was already doing it in a low profile way. Ive been guilty of showing clients how to light the subject and when to press the button when they have bought their digital camera and a set of lights but again the reality is that they would have simply found another "tutor" had I not done it and its inevitable that they would go that route. How many on the list use a local print shop for there letterheads and invoice printing ? its a changing environment and we have to go with the flow. We sell our expertise and as someone pointed out,our personality. Those two features will get you work so go brush your teeth trim your fingernails get your haircut and sell yourself. Hey that last bit sounded good,I will give it a shot. Regards Michael Wilkinson. 106 Holyhead Rd, Ketley, Telford, Shropshire.
