What you say is very interesting. It is probably not dissimilar to the problems of the Graphic Design/DTP world a few years ago.

There were designers who had been to college, received the tuition and gained knowledge of what worked and what didn't.
Then DTP came along and there was another strand of Quark/Pagemaker experts. Some were designers who converted early, others were technical people who gained their experience through learning the technical aspects of the software and learning on the job.
Then DTP was further democratised with the introduction of PagePlus, MS Publisher and even Word. So anyone could feel they were a designer.
There was industry shakeout and those who had talent and ability, from whichever route they entered the industry, survived.

Chances are the same thing will happen. I suppose it is called progress. :-)

ProDig is mostly a good forum. But it has evolved and will no doubt continue to do so.
Lots of questions could be answered by archive searches and Google, but people tend not to think like that in times of 'crisis'.

If you took away the computer related questions you might end up with just a few posts a week - and then we would be really worried!!!

Perhaps there is just a bit less to say at this point in time. It happens. There are huge numbers of new cameras released each month and they are essentially doing things pretty well. It is harder to find fault with new DSLRs. Perhaps we are just a bit in limbo waiting for the next big thing.

ProDig has an interesting cross section of the imaging/digital/computer world and all this knowledge is useful in all sorts of circumstances. So I agree allow more topics, but don't shut people out or you could end up with a talking shop that stagnates rather than genuinely interesting debate when the next big thing happens.

I am not sure exactly what the answer is, but I do believe that there is a need for a list where it is possible to discuss a far wider range of topics than is allowed on Prodig at present, and that membership should not be automatically open to anyone.
