Hi Tony,
Interesting subject...

Thanks to Geoff and Jay and we seem to be getting somewhere. Interesting though that, in spite of the awesome capabilities of Photoshop et al, there appears to be no easy way of simulating a particular colour temperature in degrees kelvin?
Camera RAW (PSCS etc) goes some way to providing this. Not tried inputing 1800 myself mind, but I imagine it would get you part way there.
As for why I wanted to do this in the first place, I thought it would be
interesting to try and see how some of the paintings in the tombs at the
Valley of The Kings might have looked to the people that painted them. I
have a notion that some sort of painting by numbers/colour management
system must have been in use as the colours would have looked radically
different deep underground with only animal fat lanterns as spot light
sources.
I am probably way off the mark here, but I thought that the human eye had it's own "white balance" so, although very dim down in those tombs, the colour would have looked fairly normal after a while. Ever printed in a colour darkroom? I remember turning my mate on his head when he was feeling his way around the walls in the dark...I'd been in there for two hours and could see as if it were daylight!!
Cheers,
Tim.
