Tell me about it. I have been on the door kicking side thousands of times,
but I've also been on the side of being persecuted by the high Sheriff -
himself. I'm going through that right now, but once you've been shot at six
or seven times, it's pretty damn hard to scare you!<G>

I'm speaking purely from principle, John. I'm getting close to 60 now,
but I look back at having done pretty much all I wanted to do - and had
some really great times doing it. Now, I don't even drink anymore. Life
these days is reduced to some friends and my kids/relatives, beautiful
scenery and writing. That's about it.

To summarize a point I'd like to make: there is way too much authority
in our lives today. Everything is regulated and there are so many laws
and heavy handed enforcement that I really worry where this trend is
going.

There is evil in this world, and there are bad guys that belong in jail,
but I personally know too many people who have been hurt - not helped -
by the "system" that's so wrapped up making and enforcing laws for too
many things. The seat-belt law might seem minor to you, but to me it was
a big deal. I seriously dislike being forced to put on a seat belt when
I don't want to, and I've already stood in front of one judge over it.
But that's a small example. At the other end of the spectrum, the
biggest travesty, is being forced to pay lawyers for simple justice. If
it sounds like I've been there, I have.

Please understand: I support police fighting the really bad guys. But
there's a lot more to our emerging Big Brother society than that, most
unfortunately.
