Thanks for the reply and the heads up on the 8125.
I don't know if you are saying you want those things or that the
device has them. It has all of those. I have one, too, the T-Mobile
version. I find it very clunky and hard to use, to wit:
If you enable PW control, you have to enter it to make a call. Sa a
result, and against my better judgement for a PDA, I didn't enable
password control.
The phone sometimes turns off when it goes wi-fi.
I thought the keyboard would be great but I don't use it very much. I
suspect that one would if it was one's primary eMail device, like a
BlackBerry or one was an "IM'er" (talk about being too old, I can't
figure *any* reason why anyone finds "IM'ing" appealing). I use it
for making "tasks", but my gripe there is that I use it mostly in
vertical mode. When I add a task, the cursor is in position to start
typing. When I slide out the keyboard, the cursor moves out of the
data entry box so I have to bring out the stylus to tap or I can
probably tab on the keyboard to get the cursor back to where I can type.
I also find Windows CE to be a mixed blessing at best. On one hand, I
can freely add sounds (for ringtones and alerts) easily. On the Palm
PDA I used to have I couldn't -- there wasn't a clue that I could
find what type of file to use nor where to put it. OTOH, if I put in
family photos, on the Palm it automatically resized them to match the
screen, with resulting small file sizes. WinCE doesn't, it adds them
full-size. I have to downsize them, and as a result, I just don't
find the time to do it. There are lots more stupid things, such as: I
record a video, but the Media Player can't find it, I have to go to
the file manager to play it -- and the media player *still* can't
find it. Who'da thunk it would be in "My Videos"? Irritating stuff
that I can't blame on the device.
Sometimes it just locks up. I guess that is its own way to remind me
that it is a Windows device.
OTOH, The voice-activated dial is a feature I really like, though
sometimes it is flaky: I say "KIM" (my wife) but it hears "museum"
and calls a client.
My main problem is that I can't read it. I have the text size set to
the biggest, but that isn't big enough for my 50+ eyes. It makes
using it for the web or eMail, well, less than useful.
I remember talking to a fellow after I first got it, but hadn't used
it much yet. He said that those devices just weren't ready for prime
time. I'm beginning to think he was right. It reminds me of those old
amphibious cars: neither a good car nor good boat. (http://
www.amphicar.com/, but now there is: http://www.watercar.com/video.html)
