I think it has nothing to do with age. It's kids. It's that "life"
thing you have.

It takes me forever to remember where to increment the variable in a
loop so that I get 'one more' or 'one less' iteration. I can't calculate
a mod(x,y) in my head to save my life. And without intellisense, my VFP
code would look like dBASE II, because I can't remember past two work areas.

Okay, so maybe you're too old to program, Pops. (To those unaware,
Whil is 82 days my junior).

And here's an empirical example. I had to read this sentence three times, and then get out a piece of paper and draw a line graph in order to determine if Ted was born in May or November to my August.

Actually, I'm still not sure.

And I swear I'm not making this up.

Us old coots beat those young bucks with guile and wisdom to their
strength and speed. I still know that they'll forget the OTHERWISE
case, and can break their code in seconds.

Sure, if a client just wants quick-and-dirty, some punk kid can whip
together a Ruby-on-Rails monstronsity in a few seconds while we're
still trying to start the word processor for a spec. But the kid
vanishes in a couple of weeks to go find himself while we've found out
(surprise!) that what the client said they wanted isn't what they
need.

Youth and speed is overrated.

I need to hang out with a different crowd. Ran a 5K a couple weeks ago. I got beat by a gal pushing a baby jogger.

While talking on her cell phone.

I am still envious (but not jealous) of youth and speed, cuz I don't have it anymore.

Although I do admit that I don't get as frantic about working with 'difficult' customers as I did 15 years ago. Cuz I seen a lot of it now, and that which I haven't seen, I can usually figger out without losing a lot of hair. (No wisecracks from the peanut gallery.)
