Yeah, I read that BW article, too. Another interesting tidbit is that a
company recently perfected a way to burn 10 layer DVD, making it possible to
put both a Blue Ray movie and a DVD HD movie on the same disk. I would
imagine that this has implications for data as well. I already backup to
DVD and store offsite. These disks will make even larger backups possible,
though they are still expensive and I imagine they will always be more
expensive per MB than hard drive space. But it does compare favorably to
the old 180K floppies I used in my Apple IIe.

And on different parts of the Internet backbone, too, right? :)

There was an article recently (where? mebbe bizweek or fortune?) about
the upcoming electrical crunches, and how data centers are looking at
electricity as a significant component of their cost structure.

So they're trying to keep the data center in a location where the
electricity is cheap (and the women are too.) Oh, sorry, that last bit
just sort of slipped out.

Eastern Washington state was one place mentioned more than once.

So it looks like a lot of folks are starting to look there for building
or expanding data centers.

Unfortunately, that one fact filled up core here so I can't suggest
other locations to look for.
