Is this for UG presentations to a dozen people or a hundred people,
how big a projection are you looking to make - 6' or 20', what kind of
light levels are you dealing with, and what kind of content are you
trying to show? Or is this for a tradeshow booth? You are looking for
1024x768 which is usually XGA and not HD. So are you going to be
watching the Steelers or reading Fox code? Or both? Finally,
"affordable" usually means "cheaper" -- the $3500 projector will
likely do everything you need, but if your budget is $700, we can skip
that discussion...
I attend 4 or 5 UG meetings a month, and nearly every projector works
"pretty well." We actually ran into a problem at PySIG where a
Panasonic laptop wouldn't sync with a fairly new InFocus projector.
However, last night, the same projector worked with my ThinkPad, which
was stuck in 1280x768 and it downsampled and squashed it a bit to fit.
So, the right answer might be to find a local shop that will let you
bring in your laptop and try it...
This will be mostly for FabMate presentations to current and prospective
clients for training purposes (mainly); also some conferences/expos.
Yeah, I'm sure I'd use it for CPVFUG too when we get back to having
meetings. <g> We've got a presentation in Maryland on Thursday, so I
need to get out there today and pick one up. Next question: OfficeMax,
Staples, BestBuy, CircuitCity, ???? All these choices I have to make!
I'm reminded of that funny part in Mr. Mom where Michael Keaton is at
the deli ordering ham and cheese. <g>
