I recommend purchasing a 64-bit system and if you're committed to a 32-bit system, run your 32-bit system in a VM using one of several free VM products out there. If you're on the fence about XP vs. Win 7 (and have licenses for both), then create a VM for both and then migrate to Win 7 at your leisure. I can't think of a single reason to purchase a 32-bit system these days.
