This looks to me like the receiving mail server has implemented a practice 
known as 
graylisting. The server rejects the first attempt with "unknown user", but then 
accepts a second attempt if it occurs within a reasonable timeframe later, like 
a 
minute to 20 minutes later. The idea is that spammers will just move on while 
regular 
mailservers will by default try again several times.

So, you need to be in control of the mailserver you are blatting to, so you can 
accept all mail from your blat instance. Then relay that mail out to the 
receiving 
server on the Internet using a real smtp mail server, not merely a smtp client 
like blat.
