Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the suggestions. The situation is not quite what I first
said, I tried to keep it simple in the hopes that someone on this list would
have had a similar experience and come across the solution. The full story
is that a friend has an old machine running Outlook 2000 (I think, it may be
2003) which has frozen on him, probably due to the excessive number of jokes
he insists on hoarding. He has replaced it with a new machine and Outlook
2010 and wants to start again by copying just the contacts across; he asked
me how to do it so I explored Outlook 2010 - I like to export my contacts at
intervals as a backup so this would be a good opportunity to learn how to do
it in 2010. This was when I hit the error message!

I'll get him to copy the .pst file across to see if that will transfer his
contacts but it still leaves me with the problem of exporting from Outlook
2010, I'll investigate Thunderbird. Will the iPhone synch with Thunderbird
as easily as it does with Outlook?
