That depends on what all you install. The kernel is the main part of the OS and must fit into memory, (eg it cannot be swap out to disk). I'm running Fedora 16 with a couple of WD RE4 500GB drives. I occassionally backup my primary drive by putting a mirror image on the 500gb secondary drive. You could run Linux in 10 gb for a minimal install. You should add to that for anything else you might want to run like VMs, databases, etc. My desktop is getting a little dated, but here it is: ASUS M4A89GTD Pro motherboard 2 x WD RE4 SATA 3.0 gb/s disks 16 gb Kingston DDR SDRAM 1600 Memory Antec Performance One Series P183 V3 Tower Case ADM Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition Thuban 3.3GHz, 3.7GHz Turbo Socket AM3 125W Six-Core processor PNY 9800GT 1024MB Nvidia GeForce Graphics Card PCI Exp[ress WD 2TB RE4 Sata 3.0 gb/s disk 750 GB USB 2.0 WD MyBook disk 200 GB Maxtor disk Regards, LelandJ _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[email protected] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
