Don't know if this applies to you, but the symptoms are exactly the problem I have about 5 years ago. Turns out that the DOS commands needed a letter drive, and we had set up the PIF to run using UNC. Once we changed \\stupidserver\mydrive to G:\Mydrive, it worked fine.
