Well, it's not just Microsoft - Google and Apple are worse IMO. And what
it's about is having you continually logged in and trackable both in
habit and location for the ad men. Ever notice how hard they make it to
log out of stuff? Logout options nicely buried, always logged in by
default unless you force it off, and so on.

Even Ubuntu seems to be starting down this road.


Marketing has become so devious in their methods over the past decade it seems. "Data mining" and "strategic ads (based on that mining" come to mind. You heard about the Target store story where they knew the girl was pregnant before her dad did and were sending her some sort of pregnancy-related coupons?
