In case you hadn't thought of it, when it comes time to do the email
sending, I would *strongly* recommend that you put some sort of throttling
mechanism in place i.e. don't just start sending out thousands of emails...
Send two or three, pause, send two or three, pause....
You DON'T want to end up on a blacklist right in the middle of getting your
invoices out, which would bring everything to a screaching halt... That
would be bad...
The way that I implemented allows for sending the invoice as an
E-mail attachment or not. When I print to PDF, a permanent copy is
kept in an archive directory structure and can have a temporary copy
put in a directory structure for E-mail to be sent.
Creating E-mails is a separate function. It can work on either
one client or all. An appropriate form E-mail is created and every
found file (invoices, statements, whatever) is copied to another
directory structure for E-mail presumably sent or that will be and
each file is attached to the E-mail. At this time, the E-mails can
be sent or this can be done in Outlook, possibly after editing the E-mails.
After sending the E-mails, you can clear out the sent directory
structure.
With this setup, you can not send something more than once
unless you go to the trouble of copying it or regenerating it.
It has worked for several years. We have around 100 clients
and almost all of them get their invoices and statements by E-mailed PDF.
Sincerely,
Gene Wirchenko
