I'm assuming that it is the client machine and not the server you want to
prevent shutting down. As part of your closing routine you could ask the
user if they want to close the machine when the application finishes. If
they answer yes then call shutdown.exe at the end of your shutdown routine
so that the user is not tempted to close the machine down themselves so that
they can go home.
I like this idea. Even if I get rid of the auto-backup routine, it
decreases the likelihood that the user will shut down the OS before my
application exits.
But.. what happens if the user shuts down Windows, which calls my ON
SHUTDOWN routine, which asks the user what to do? What happens to that
modal Messagebox if there's no response from the user?
