I have had more luck over the years with mapped drive letters. A number of
our FoxPro projects use a drive letter and path stored in a preferences
table for each workstation. Our most wide-spread VFP app tried to
standardize on Drive F a long time ago, before the proliferation of local
drives, and it was problematic. Sticking that setting in the table was the
trick.
We use drive F for our main APP and usually the only problems we have
are when people plug in devices like SD card readers, which may take the
F drive. You then have to go into administrative tools/computer
management/disk management (as admin) and change the drive letter of the
card reader to something higher. We therefore tell users not to move a
card reader from one machine to another.
We have a batch file to run this as admin when the user does not have
admin rights. The batch file contains:
runas /noprofile /env /user:mydomain\%1 "mmc
c:\windows\system32\diskmgmt.msc"
