John, I worked for Retail and Distribution with the Singer 1500 terminals and old Singer System 10 machines. After the Singer buyout most of the staff left or stayed down with ICL at Stevenage so I was left to support the 1500 terminals which were realy powerful for the time and battled with the ICL equivalent 7500 terminals which were crap. The 1500 range had serial I/O ... or as it became knows "thin ethernet" and FEDS and multi user networking out of the box and we used to sell it as a mini office computer system. It was then b*stardised by ICL and turned into the DRS 30 and DRS 50 at which time I left.
Lots of my time with Singer was spent travelling down to Stevenage but I rarely got involved with the military side of Singer unfortunately.
