There's a dreaded mapped drive problem?

Some folks here have reported seeing it fairly regularly. I myself have only rarely seen it. In Windows 7, once in a very great while, a mapped drive will show a red "x" in Windows Explorer, indicating disconnection. If one clicks this indicator, the "x" will go away almost immediately; the drive reconnects. I've seen it maybe 2 or 3 times.

So if this is happening in my application, attempting to access the file should reconnect the drive--if not immediately then after a brief pause. It's just that I don't have all attempts to touch a file on the server centralized into one place. It's going to be a long night's work wrapping each such attempt in TRY...CATCH ... SLEEP... TRY... TRY... AGAIN...

By the way, in Windows 2000, mapped drives would *routinely* show up as red "x"'s in Windows Explorer when they were perfectly well connected, and clicking them would not change the display at all. So I guess this is progress...
