cobra as I understood it expires after so many days.
I believe you have one year to convert it, but I could be wrong ?

David,

Going to COBRA is very expensive and really designed for
short term use. There are many group health insurance
options out there. My wife and I have even discussing
not having health insurance.
...

We can't really wing it without insurance. Steve has had two heart attacks
and flesh eating bacteria. If it weren't for insurance picking up the bills -- especially during the flesh eating bacteria -- he would have died waiting
for a decision to be made about how to get paid for treatment. So no
insurance is no option.

The COBRA plan is the same rate EDS pays plus a small administration fee. It
is significantly lower in cost than the plan we had before I was hired by
EDS. I even took up the option to convert my long term disability and group
term life policies -- the rates were very good from what I could see.

So far I haven't seen any offerings that were cheaper than COBRA for the
same kind of plan. Maybe something has changed. Or maybe EDS has a better
rate deal than some other companies because of its size. Hmm...
