Yes, apparently. I have put them on four machines now, and paid each time. But well worth it.
Modern Mix allows you to run Modern (i.e., Start Screen or Modern) apps in a window on the Desktop, which pretty well de-toxes most of them.
Oh yes, the Store updates Metro apps automatically. But it doesn't tell you that it did so, so there's no way to know if they've changed. I turned the auto-update off. Besides, the store update is way fun to watch!
