Michael,

>>Let's hope Rick Schummer's advice to them helps them to change. I'll give
>>them the
benefit of the doubt that the crap still in the pipeline was in there prior to
Rick
speaking with them. ???<<

Just because I have offered them advice does not mean they are taking it <bg>.
There are
changes coming as I have posted in my blog and on ProFox. There are still some
bad
indicators things are not changing. I think we should know more by the December
and
January issues. For instance, the return to two columns instead of three for
readability
this month. The column reprints does not ring well with me, I want new content,
not stuff
I have read before. I fully endorse reusability in code, but not in
publications.

While I agree with Ed's opinion about spammers and tactics on subscriptions, I
believe
this can be corrected with a simple change in policy. The content is king in
publishing. I
believe the content and quality has completely shifted in favor of Advisor, as
Malcolm has
stated.

Personally, what I am hoping for is a policy change at FoxTalk and better
content. I am
sure they are capable of both and believe this will be changed, or the magazine
will die a
horrible death shortly. I believe they have to change leadership and need better
direction. The editor is being hung out to dry on this. He wants to publish a
great
magazine, but is not being handed the resources to accomplish this.

On the other hand, Advisor is making a big push to get premium content and have
persuaded
many of the former FoxTalk authors to regularly publish for them, as well as
retaining the
authors they already had in the fold. I really like working with the Advisor
folks. They
show flexibility. It was a smart business move.

Overall I believe the best thing for the Fox Community is to have two
publications
competing. This will lead to better magazines, better content for Fox
developers, and more
outlets for Fox authors to get published. A huge win-win-win. Now we can only
hope FoxTalk
will make a complete turnaround.
