The rest of the Question?  My answer is BUY Sql Server.  Get the benefits
of the full product.  It is more a simple data store for all of your bits.
 You will get SSRS and now you can push reports ahead of peak times.

There are probably 25 great reasons to consider M$ version at this time.
 The company will have to pay for it.  I have a cluster with 2 TB of data
on line at my disposal right now.  There are 8 instances of SQL running on
that single box.  One for our ERP and all of it's data, another for our DW.
Third for in house applications that support or suck data off of ERP.
Third for  SharePoint and fourth for all internal Ops systems.  From those
4 instances I have 4 test instances as well.

When you consider this is the lifeblood of the business you start to view
this as an asset instead of an expense.

You can do just about all of this same stuff from other RDBMS systems.  You
have an existing set of code in place today that references the M$ product.
 How much time to refactor is a big issue at hand.
