For the Note3 you do not have to use that new style cable.

You can still use your regular micro usb that you use on most android phones. Try it. I thought I would need to buy a special cable because the phone came with the new style but I tried the old cable and it works fine. In fact, the phone came with the old style cable and an auto adapter. It powers and/or transfers data. I'm not sure what value that new style cable offers other than it is wider and more stable?

The Note3 does not have an sd slot (like most tables and smart phones), however, I got a cheap adapter that changes the micro usb (that is used for charging) to a regular usb. Then I have a usb adapter to all the different sizes of sd cards and even huge usb external drives. The instant you connect, the Note3 finds the new drive and it is easy to show whatever. I go to a lot of meetings. Most now give you a usb drive instead of printed documentation. The Note3 works great. A tablet would probably be better.

I have the Note3 and would like to do what you are doing. The power cable is unique to the Note3. It is a split connector and has a female USB on the other end. What did you do to connect it to a USB drive?

Thank you in advance.

ps. What is your first name?
