Amen to that.

Most of us have never done fixed-price contracts. Maybe some have done it
*once,* never twice. I'd also wager a bunch of money that most of us, even
with an hourly agreement, have put in many "free" hours when our actual
hours and estimate begin to diverge too far for our comfort.

Even with a well-defined specifications document, there is a pretty big gap
between what the customer and you envision.
