What version of Mint, and what desktop? (MATE, Cinnamon, KDE, XFCE, etc.)
Is it plugged into into an external monitor, and is it in sync mode?
When you go to "Displays", and click the "Identify", what does it say?
It may have been zoomed in with the Compiz manager. I don't have Mint
running right now but some of your answers may get use closer to the
solution.

One of our associates bought out an old company laptop and I stuck
Linux Mint on it for him. He brought it back and for some reason it's
stuck in some sort of zoom mode, whereby the whole screen doesn't fit
either on the laptop screen itself nor the attached monitor. I've
gone into display settings and set different resolutions but found no
resolution there. It's like the magnifying thing is stuck on. Where
the heck do I find that to turn it off????
