Where/how is the label printer connected? (My experience has been a USB port and shared from a workstation.)

I have found that networking label printers helps a lot...I use a network->USB connection device from Buffalo that provides excellent performance for around $50. In fact, I've got one still wrapped in its original plastic I'd be willing to sell for what I have in it.

My best guess is that your label printer is being shared from workstation (or server) X and the problem you're having is that workstation X, having been in service for a while (years) is beginning to suffer from the dreaded Windows print-spooler-itis. What usually helps is to
a) uninstall the printer(s) on that workstation
b) reboot
c) reinstall the printers on that workstation
Doing this will often cause Windows to recreate/reinitialize the spooler buffer on the hard drive and it will work fine...for a while. Maybe months, maybe years, maybe hours.

The best solution is to hang the label printer off the network and address it with an IP address.

I have this code in a program that has been running for over 10 years now without a problem:

SET PRINTER TO NAME (luValue)
LABEL FORM Parcel &lcdestination && TO PRINTER
SET PRINTER TO NAME (lcCurrentPrinter)

luValue is filed in with the name of a label printer (in this case a Dymo Label Writer.

This is on a network of 11 PCs running XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8 machines and a Windows Server 2008 server. Since we upgraded the server from Windows Server 2003, intermittently the label will not get printed. It does not get added to the print queue (or any print queue on the computer). If they try to print again it prints successfully. So far this seems to only be happening on XP PCs but that may be because they just have not reported it when it happens on other PCs.

My application is VFP9 SP2 with all the hotfixes.

I have put some code in to monitor what is in luValue so hopefully we can see what that is when the printing fails, but if anyone has any ideas what could be causing this I would be grateful.
