On the contrary, it sounds like you've answered your own question. > It was probably simple to install the codecs to totem, but after a few > hours, I didn't figure it out and that's all the time I was willing to > devote to it. Microsoft's Media Player, in addition to being a great delivery platform for malware and exploits. also has no problem installing proprietary and restrictive codecs on your machine. It's easier for the software vendor when they have the attitude that they own your machine. I don't know the specifics of what you were trying to install on what type of hardware and OS, There are a lot of media players in Linux to choose from, and each has its strengths and weaknesses. In addition, different distributions take different stances on how easy or hard it ought to be to install commercial codecs which can taint the platform you're using. I found it was sometimes hard to find instructions on how to install such restrictive software. If you decide to try that one again, don't forget the Linux zealots here and on the ProLinux forums. -- Ted Roche Ted Roche & Associates, LLC http://www.tedroche.com _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
