Sounds like Windows is waiting for something to indicate the end of the print job??? Back in the DOS days, I would send a pageeject at the end to "close" the print que.

No idea why it works for several receipts and then starts getting wonky, but the 40 second delay sounds like a timeout on the part of the printer spool.
