     I just tested it, and the answer is yes.

          replace <memocolumn> with <stufftoadd> additive
is just a usually shorter form for
          replace <memocolumn> with <memocolumn>+<stufftoadd>
With a short memo column name, it might not even be shorter:
          replace <mc> with <stufftoadd> additive
vs.
          replace <mc> with <mc>+<stufftoadd>
