finally got him to bring in the laptop for remedial action. My ISP
(Simplynames.com) reported that they have had hundreds of people with the
same problem since Windows 10 roll out. The suggested fix by Microsoft is to
run the DOS admin command "sfc /scannow". Running this found a few files
that were corrupted and proceeded to replace them but the Email still didn't
work so I ended up rolling it back (luckily you have 30 days to do this from
an update) and then had to re-install Office 2007 and reset up the email
accounts before it worked again without problem.

timescale for a patch for the problem so I would advise those of you who
want to upgrade to do so with care!

Dave,

I have had clients have problem with emailing on Windows 10 using SSL.
Switching to TLS has resolved the problem. Changing which control I use to
send emails has helped as well.
