Last time I checked Splashtop's file transfer it had improved but still had issues. The main one I recall is that it didn't list all the files in a folder. I didn't figure out the threshold but it simply went through the letter H or something like that.

You do need to set up port forwarding with the router. With TeamViewer you need someone on the other end to tell you what the password is each time you connect.
