I'm going to chime in for Xojo ... again.  I find it's really fun to develop 
in.  I'm using it at my new job working with my county government. The Xojo web 
application that I built for them is "invaluable" for them to accomplish their 
job in the Building Department. 

Here's my check list:

- Case insensitive programming language: Check
- Report writer: Half check (they're working on improving this)
- FOSS: no
- Try it for free for an unlimited time: Check

- Small focused company: Check
- Documentation in English: Check
- Example programs: Check (Hundreds of them)
- Friendly community: Check
- Database agnostic: Check
- Active development of the product: Check
- Compile to Windows: Check
- Compile to Mac: Check
- Compile to Linux: Check
- Build console applications: Check
- Build desktop applications: Check
- Build web applications: Check
- Build iOS applications: Check
- Build Android applications: Coming soon. Perhaps 2017
- Build Raspberry Pi applications: Check
- Easy to build web applications: Yes. Almost build them like desktop 
applications!
- Can host web applications for a "reasonable" cost: Yes, starting at $5 at 
http://DigitalOcean.com and similar
- Web applications are secure: Yes. Doubly yes when hosted in the Xojo Cloud 
service (http://www.xojo.com/cloud/ )
- Native controls per platform: Yes (This means that a Mac app looks like a Mac 
app, etc. )
- Actively published magazine: Yes ( http://xdevmag.com/ )
- Conferences in USA: Yes (http://www.xojo.com/xdc/HTML/index.html )
- Conferences in EU: Yes

If there was ever a VFP replacement, I think Xojo is it.

Ed (and others),

What tech do you find yourself enjoying nowadays?  I don't just mean doing it 
for a paycheck, but something that you REALLY like, akin to the golden days 
when you were loving the Fox.
