I second John's suggestion for a print server. I've got a wired DLink print server and it's been rock solid for almost three years now. No problem with my whole family printing from Windows or Linux.
It's so easy, it's definitely worth the couple of extra bucks and you don't have to worry if the attached computer/server is on and working.
