The Microsoft of 20 years ago probably would have complained, but they're a different company now. Their take is basically "If you want to modify the copy of VFP that you paid for, go for it."
VERSION() either returns 10, or not. Almost all of the changes he implemented can be turned off with settings for maximum backwards compatibility.
