I've always disagreed with that phrase. I think l'enfer c'est moi. The
others have no 'real' means to make hell in me (if you can disregard
torture and such). But my conception of the world, the way I see the
other is the world in which I live, that can be hell... or heaven... or
more likely for most of us a bit of each.
That would mean 'sin' will be immediately punished, maybe before you
actually sin. Because to do so you must live in (perceive) a world that
justifies it, and living in that kind of world is punishment enough.
