The house is one of our joys and one of our problems right now. We are over
budget, and I have just requested an increase in our loan amount. In the
meantime, the general contractor who is at least partly responsible for our
predicament is throwing his substantial weight around saying he is going to
shut down production on our house because the overruns mean his bill has not
been paid in full. We just received his invoice a week ago.

The overruns total approximately $100K, and are primarily due to our
difficult building site. It is beautiful, but it sure has been tough.

The contractor is saying things like the bank is going to take back our
house and we will lose the whole enchilada, and he'll finish building it
anyway.

So at the moment I'm just doing what I need to so that the loan increase can
get processed, and trying not to lose my head over the construction
problems. I have to believe that we are doing what we are supposed to be
doing, and that this is going to work out, even though I am frightened.
