Yup, I picked C# because it has the brevity of C but without having to
worry about all the crap like pointers and the like. The .NET platform
is getting ever better and all the tools you need to get started are
free (.NET framework, Visual C# Express Edition, SQL Server Express). 

Cons: 
Not cross-platform in any meaningful way yet.
Some experience rejection at a molecular level when it comes to
Microsoft. Me, I use whatever my customer base dictates, and it dictates
Windows. Yes, I could use Java or Python or whatever on Windows, but you
make big sacrifices there in terms of a quality GUI as far as I can see,
and there is nothing approaching the RAD capability of Visual Studio
yet.
