Dang, he doesn't live in Austin does he ?? I left american reliable in scottsdale for a gig in austin because it would put me home and it paid more money.
Turned out to be the job from hell just because of what you're saying here. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Michael Madigan Sent: Monday, May 07, 2007 9:52 AM To: ProFox Email List Subject: Re: [NF] Programmers and OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) I worked for a guy who would re-write anything I would do. He would change the variable names, change the spacing, change anything that wasn't sitting well with his sick mind. If you did a replace, it had to be two to a line. Like Replace fielda with data1, fieldb with data2,; fieldc with data3, fieldd with data4 instead of Replace fielda with data1,; fieldb with data2,; fieldc with data3,; fieldd with data If you did it with one field, he would just re-write it. The variable all had to be 8 characters long, regardless. Doing a "beautify" using Foxpro's built-in utility was a no-no, and he would yell at you for doing it, since Beautify would use too many white spaces. I doubt if there was another programmer alive or dead that was as sick as this guy. I would go home with a knot in my stomach every night. Could you imagine someone re-writing your code every time? Didn't matter whether it worked or not, it had to have the correct number of spaces in it. It even affected my relationship with my next employer because I wound up asking for permission to do things that a seasoned programmer shouldn't need to ask for. I should have slipped some Zoloft into his coffee. --- MB Software Solutions <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Was talking about OCD with a friend recently, and I > wasn't really sure > what OCD was, so I looked it up on Wikipedia: > > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsessive-compulsive_disorder > > Aren't all programmers (or at least the one's who > care...haha) likely to > be labeled with OCD? <g> > > -- > Michael J.
