Bill is correct. You can still get NAV 2006 at www.buycheapsoftware.com, which works with 1000 Pro SP3+ or XP (not Vista) (and supposedly Win98, but I think that stopped with NAV 2005) for $21 plus shipping, retail box. Good folks, I often get software through them (other than MSDN software <g>)
For a truly decent free AV solution, give www.comodo.com a peek. It runs on 2000 Pro SP4 and XP, and has free updates for life, no initial license fee. I set this up for a tenant to use in their PC, and was very pleased with the resultant performance. After one year, and despite having 3 kids hammering on their PC, I have yet to need to clean the PC up again. It has daily automated signature file updates as well. The biggest reason I do not use this software myself and for business clients is it does not have a centralized management interface like Symantec AntiVirus Corporate does. For my dozen ot so PC/Server class machines that is a nominal consideration. But for my clients it is significant, especially when I am asked to look at a situation they are concerned with involving a possible intrustion. Also, if I recommend SAV for my clients, it is good for me to be intimately familiar with it. Comodo has several other products that look decent. Worth looking at.
