Do people coming across our border pose any greater health threat to
Americans than what we already normally face? This problem has been
going on for some time now, and I have never heard much about it causing
any health issue to the general population of the US. I doubt illegal
border crossings are a serious health issue, and there are so may other
ways that disease can spread from human to human contact. As was
already noted, mesquites can transmit disease from one sick person to
another, and our borders don't address this problem.

Rather than thinking about illegal border crossing as any kind of
serious health threat, I would rather think about about the more
important challenges. There is the threat of disease from biological
weapons that can be delivered by plane, ships, and guided missiles, etc,
and a border fence doesn't address this problem. Then there is the
threat of harm from natural disaster like the recent tsunami that took
250,000 lives, and a border fence doesn't protect against disasters from
earth quakes, flood, hurricanes, like the one that hit New Orleans,
volcanic eruptions, and tsunami. Many of our most serious health
challenges do not even involve communicable diseases. Disease like high
blood pressure and diabetes are a tremendous threat to Americans health,
because they lead to heart attacks and st rocks. We have not yet found
a cure for cancer, which is a much bigger health treats to Americans
than diseases arising out of illegal border crossing.

The key to reducing the threat of harm from disease is research into
cures, or preemptive medicine like vaccinations or changing to a healthy
style of living. Money could be much better spent in these area to
reduce the threat of disease than building fences to deter illegals from
crossing our borders.
