Here I turned on the computer and it went through the chains thing on the
hard drive. there was no problem before and since. Just this one.

I wonder if it's some goofy patch that Microsoft downloaded.

I use AVG Free anti-virus, carbonite backup, and Windows Defender
anti-spyware.

None of those three were showing up on the CPU under processes when I
looked.

No virus found in this outgoing message.
