Sytze, The valid will fire only when the combobox loses focus or when an entry is selected from the dropdown list. If you want to validate the data as you enter it then you need to use the "interactivechange" event and process the keystrokes as you get them. If you intercept the "TAB" or "ENTER" keys then you can then do the validation.
As a matter of interest what do you need to do that you can't do with the Lostfocus() or Interactivechange() events?
