It is network connections.  My best guess is either a router or a switch is
the culprit in this mess.  They are intermittent so the message traffic for
email and web is no problem.  Your code on the other hand needs that 100% up
time.

Quick fix is to rewrite the data access layer.  That all.  Bad Steve.  I
know that that would be a great deal of work but you still need to change
it.  All data needs to be pulled in a C/S sort of manner and inserted or
updated from a LOCLA service running at the server and not at the
workstation.

It would probably be easier to switch out the data type, because that
requires a rewrite.  You know it and you go through with it.
