I like the *nix way: a virtual filesystem that abstracts away the fact
that there is more than one physical disk at play. The cdrom, floppy,
hard disks, and network volumes all exist somewhere in the / tree.
Everything in the filesystem is relative to /, the root of the tree.

In Windows, there isn't one root; rather, there's one root for each volume.

Having to specify a drive letter keeps you from being able to be
relative; forces you to be absolute. It is brittle, inflexible,
annoying, and shortsighted.

Yes, I know you can specify mount points for ntfs volumes, which helps
but feels very much grafted on and only partly implemented. Something to
market to appease the PHB's that Windows offers everything that *nix does.
