I've been using Ghost 9 for some time to make backup drive images with no problems. I've recently been having some issues with my test machine so decided to restore a previous image. Ghost told me that all three of my latest images were corrupt which rather surprised me. I decided that it was probably time I re-built the system anyway as it had become quite cluttered so did so. I have just tried to install Ghost and found that it won't run setup for some reason. I decided to investigate upgrading Ghost or going for Acronis True Image 11 Home. The reviews for both on Amazon are pretty mixed ranging from excellent to rubbish, there doesn't seem to be a happy medium. As a stop gap I am using DriveImageXML which is an open source product; I've never had to recover a disc in anger but it seems to work OK.
Question - what does the team think of Acronis or Ghost? Should I carry on with DriveImageXML? I am running a bog standard XP Pro OS but intend to make it dual boot with Ubuntu 7.1, but not until I have a good disc image for if (when?) I mess it up <g>. Any comments gratefully received.
