More than half of the electricity used in the USA comes from burning
coal. New coal burning electric utility plants on the drawing board
today will capture CO2 and pipe it to oil field, where its pressure will
be used to recover additional oil. I suppose the CO2 would then be
shut in, so it couldn't escape into the atmosphere. This sounds great,
but it will be a very expensive solution, assuming the Government
Regulatory Agencies of the Department of Energy would even approve any
new coal burning electrical plants.

I don't know to what extent existing coal burning electrical plant have
been cleaned up, but we could be looking at a 25 to 30 year time frame
before all coal burning electricity plants could meet some kind of
Government emissions standards.

Never-the-less, the coal reserves of the USA are very abundant with the
USA having an estimated 25% of all coal reserves world wide.
