Of course.  It worked this way with Windows 95 (or was it 98?) too.
What are you seeing?  One thing I can recommend is to turn off 'Simple
File Sharing'.  Not sure if it makes a difference, but I really don't
understand the 'Simple File Sharing' dialog :-)

I've used many different networks with IPX & TCP/IP, both in a domain
and a simple workgroup.
