I use the tableupdate function and a message appears if there is a conflict.
We don't have many people updating records so it has worked okay.

In the old days I vaguely remember using rlock, but quit when buffering came
along.

I think I need to change from "Set refresh to 0,0" to "set refresh to 5,5",
and forget about using "Set reprocess to"

Regarding SET REPROCESS I think that all depends on what sort of
technique, if any, you use to deal with file contention conflicts. You
said that mostly you use table buffering = 5, but do you have anything
in place for possible overwrites?
