News flash: I have the same opinion of you! > Let's go for the most obvious, you say you believe in democracy. No, I have said many times I believe in *republican* government and am skeptical of democracy, particularly its purer flavors. > In > these countries they have elections (democratic ones, one man one vote) > they also have laws (and they respect them more than you do) On what basis do you make that assertion? > and there > are "democratic" ways to change governments and political orientation > of > the country. Yet they are happy with their system and they like it that > way. Where is the tyranny there? People can like tyranny too. It brings comfort, certainty, stability. Indeed it is only after a long train of abuses that peoples generally throw off an oppressive government. > If you object the ruling of the majority so does Bill G. when he says > anti-trust laws are "a form of statism" and that it is tyrannical to > prevent him from forming monopolies. I am not talking about majority rule being bad, but when the majority uses its power to oppress a minority. Our form of government is the only one I'm aware of with the required checks and balances -- three branches of government, bicameral legislature, federal vs. local levels of government, etc. -- to prevent majority faction while paradoxically enforcing majority rule. Or at least, this was the case before the extra-constitutional institution of the two party system figured out how to circumvent it. It's a subtle point you're not likely to get, given how prone you are to gross oversimplification. > > > > >> These socialist countries (Denmark, Sweden, etc) > >> are way more democratic and free than yours. > > > > Really? In what way am I less free than a Dane? > > Well, I've seen how your police force handles manifestations they don't > like. Let me tell you that does not happen in Denmark. What does not happen in Denmark? What manifestations are you talking about? > And a citizen > won't get different treatment based or race or origin, as we can agree > happens in your country. No we do not agree on this. > Let me tell you a story. Something that happened when I went to see > that > film... "4th of july"(?). Where that alien ship flies over the white > house and destroys it with a beam. Everybody in the theater started > clapping, whopping and shouting hurray. I was astounded at the level of > resentment displayed in a theater where a Hollywood film was on display > (I mean it was not a communist party reunion). And we are as far away > from you as possible in this continent, imagine what happens with > people > who have to suffer you near. Just draw your own conclusions. Anecdotal. At my theatre they cheered when the aliens were defeated. Where were you when you saw it? Hollywood? South Chicago? Moscow? Pakistan? > > > Conversely, there are people even > > here in the US, our own citizens, who hate us and what we stand for. > There > > are some aspects of us worth loving, other areas where we could be a > lot > > better. > > You mean you could be better at invading other countries? Or at > organizing coups against democratically elected leaders? Maybe at > abducting citizens from their countries and taking them to other places > where they will be tortured? I mean we should better reflect our founders' original goal of a peaceful commercial republic. I do agree we've over-extended ourselves in pursuit of Pax Americana, "a globe safe for democracy" etc. If you spent a little time actually familiarizing yourself with my real views you'd realize I'm not the caricature you want to think I am. > > I usually think that if my neighbour hates me it must be something > wrong > with him, but if MOST my neighbours hate me then there must be > something > wrong with me. Maybe you just live in a bad neighborhood. > > > Worrying what my friends thought of me never got me anywhere in life. > > So why do you keep justifying your country? If you don't care then shut > up. Why are you constantly accusing it? If life is so much better in Denmark, and that's the happiest place on the globe, just move there and shut up. :) - Bob _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[EMAIL PROTECTED] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
